ACU historian heads to National 5RP Finals
ACU historian Dr Noah Riseman is heading to the Five Minute Research Pitch (5RP) National Final with his presentation Serving in Silence? Australian LGBTI Military Service since 1945.
It’s another honour for Dr Riseman, who was recently awarded an ARC Discovery Grant for his research in this area. Similar to the national Three Minute Thesis, 5RP is an exciting opportunity for researchers to showcase their work to a national audience and win up to $7000 towards their research. Competitors have just five minutes, and three Powerpoint slides, to present their current research in a way that is easily understood by a non-academic audience. This year, the final will be hosted at ACU with competitors from ACU, Victoria University Edith Cowan University, Federation University, the University of Southern Queensland, Central Queensland University and Southern Cross University taking part.
Dr Noah Riseman’s research focuses on the social history of marginalised groups in the Australian military including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) service people. Dr Riseman is particularly interested in military service in the post-Second World War era and how the Australian Defence Force has grappled with social change.
“I’m looking forward to taking part in the National Final and being able to showcase some of Australia’s hidden histories to a wider audience,” he said.
Professor Patrick Heaven, Dean of Research, said ACU is delighted to host the National Final.
“We are committed to supporting and developing excellence in research at ACU and are pleased to be working with other universities to develop a strong national research culture,” he said.
The National 5RP Final will be held on Monday 16 November from 2 – 5 pm in the Sir Peter Cosgrove Centre, Level 22, Tenison Woods House, 8 – 20 Napier Street, North Sydney. To RSVP, please email email@example.com
